About BOM
What is BOM?
BOM is teens helping other teens dial down the drama in relationships. We know that whether you're just kickin it, figuring out how you feel, if you're in like or deep in love, things get complicated. BOM can help.
Who are the BOM Ambassadors
An ambassador is an authorized messenger or representative. We are regular teens who have been selected to promote the BOM message. BOM Ambassadors are here to help you deal with the trials and tribulations of being in a relationship. We attend weekly workshops and trainings about healthy and unhealthy relationships so we understand the topic from a professional perspective and we know where you're coming from. We have all been through and seen good and bad relationships and we know how hard it is to keep yours solid even before you bring in MySpace, Facebook, AIM and all that. This page introduces you to the people that are answering your questions. Check us out and feel free to ask questions anytime.
Meet the Ambassadors

Sheila
Heeyyyyyyyyyyyy.. Im Sheila I have 17 years on this earth. The type of work I do with BOM is very unique to me and my peers because is rare to see teenagers in our community trying to help others. I don’t think is healthy for people to be in abusive relationships, so to me BOM means making the best decisions you can and treating yourself as a sacred temple.

Amber
Hello, my name is Amber. I am 19 years old and I live in Oakland, CA. I moved a lot during my childhood and seen many different cities all over the U.S.. In my free time I love to listen to my favorite vocalists and spend time with my loved ones. I am not really involved with too many physical activities but I am very ambitious about getting the word out on teen dating violence and other teen dating drama. BOM is my way of reaching out to others like me.

Ricky
Hi. My name is Ricky I am 17, and I really enjoy being at Youth Radio. What I like about BOM is that I can express the way I feel about relationships and also the way they can be good thing for you and make you a better person.

Lanaya
Hey everyone! My name is Lanaya and I am 15. I am a veteran BOM Ambassador. I decided to be a part of this program because I wanted to learn more about healthy relationships. What I hope to get out of this experience is to not also better my knowledge, but to help others around me too. What being the BOM means to me is to have respect for myself and to control my emotions.

Daron
My name is Daron I am 17. I got involved in BOM because being the boss of your self is cool you can't let nobody take over you. You have to be your own person and make your own choices and be a leader, that’s why I am the boss of me.

Lizzie
Hey my name is Lizzie, I’m 18 and I from Oakland. I’ve been involved in BOM for the past several months. We teenagers are growing up in a society that’s full of drama and love that moves fast and sometimes is unhealthy. I would love to help give all the advice I can to everyone who needs it in their life. To me BOM means knowing who you are and knowing you’re in control of yourself. I’ve been in a few healthy and unhealthy relationships and learned a lot so I’m here to help in any and every way possible!

Gregorio
My name is Gregorio and I am part of the BOM411 team. We are here for young teens who may need support in relationships; whether it be with their friends or their boyfriend/girlfriend. I recently graduated from project M.A.T.C.H (Media Advocates Transforming Community Health) where I picked up a set of media skills that I didn't know I would use until I became part of BOM411. BOM411 is amazing. Being the boss of me in my relationships is fabulous.

David
I'm 19 years old and Boss of Me in my eyes means being in control of yourself and your actions, not letting another person make decisions for you. I enjoy BOM because it lets me give my opinions on relationships an how others handle similar situations in relationships.

Mario
My name is Mario, I'm 19 years old. I became part of the BOM campaign in March 2009. I feel that BOM is relevant to every young person seeking happiness in their relationship. Being the Boss of Me means that no matter what, you have control over yourself and emotions.

Shakiyla
I am going on 18 years old. I consider myself the glue to B.O.M. You know the person who can always make you feel better no matter what mood you are in; well that is me. I have been a health intern for over a year now and one of the original B.O.M Ambassadors. To me being the BOM means I have control over myself and my relationships.

Lucia
I am 17 years old and my name is Lucia. The BOM411 campaign that has taken a combination of so many teenagers from different backgrounds to finally create is one of great importance. To me BOM411 is finally an opportunity for youth to rise letting everyone realize that domestic abuse is not the only abuse out there; Teen dating violence is far too common and is not acceptable. The campaign is working on primary prevention—preventing the issue before it begins and it is setting the frame work for teenagers and adults alike to understand what a positive relationship actually is.

Elaina
"Life is about trusting your feelings and taking chances, losing and finding happiness, appreciating the memories, learning from the past, and realizing people change"
Nice to meet you my name is Elaina. I have been working with BOM since the very beginning. BOM deals with situations that happen in teen relationships everyday.I am a freshman at the University of California Riverside. I am a philosopher; I like to see the beauty in the ugliness of the world. Mistakes are made and they are a part of life. Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can awake and make a new ending. I am a complex individual but I can say once you meet me there will never be a boring moment.
"Love... Why does it hurt? Why does it ache? Maybe because we love too much and too deep that sometimes we forget to keep a little for ourselves...sad but true"

De’Shawn
My name is De'Shawn and I'm 17. I got involved in BOM because I like shattering the stereotype that boys don't care about healthy relationships. Being the Boss of Me means being in control of your own actions and the choices you make.

Ti’Ara
Hello my name is Ti'Ara. I am 17 years old. I became involved in BOM because I was interested in unhealthy relationships. Being a health advocate gives us an opportunity to get our voices heard and to share our knowledge with other teens who don't really know about unhealthy relationships. The definition of BOM to me is not only being the boss of yourself but emotional self-regulation,which means taking responsibility for your own actions.

Monica
Hey, what's up my name is Monica. I'm 18 years old am I'm from West Oakland. I've only been a youth advocate for about 3 months. Even though it's only been a short amount of time BOM is important to me. I wanted to be a part of BOM because I have been in unhealthy relationships and I don't want to repeat the same mistakes. I would like to help other people simply because I know firsthand how it feels. BOM means that you shouldn't let a person try to run your life, and you shouldn't ever feel pressured to do anything.

Maya
I am 17 years old and I'm going into my senior year at Berkeley High. I've been a peer health advocate for a little over a year and a BOM Ambassador for the past 5 months. Being the Boss of Me means being able to make my own decisions and think for myself. It is important for everyone to know their self worth and value, especially when it comes to relationships. BOM is important to me because it gives help and answers to questions that everyone has.
