I’ve seen a lot of unhealthy relationships and I want to help people avoid certain situations. I definitely don’t want to see teens in my community in abusive relationships. BOM is somewhere I love to be because I'M THE BOSS OF ME!

Hello, my name is Diamond.  I am 18 years of age.  I'm from San Francisco, but live in Oakland. I started BOM almost a year ago and I really didn't know much about healthy relationships. If you ask me today I can tell you a lot about them. I love helping my peers on situations that I know, I learned about or have been through. BOM means a lot to me because you learn new things everyday. The best part is you get to share what you learned with somebody that has no idea about  healthy relationship or being the boss of them. Boss of me means to be the boss of me, being in control of myself and not letting others control me. Being the Boss of me is where I want to be!!

It let's you get an idea of the healthy (right) ways and unhealthy (wrong) ways to manage a relationship. You also can inform people of your opinion and what you believe in. Also doing your own things and not following the crowd do something positive with your life. Make your own decisions and not going with what everybody else is doing. Dictating your own which means not letting anybody make choices for you that will have a major effect on your life.

Hello my name is Joi. I am currently 17 years old and I attend Oakland School for The Arts. I live Oakland California, I am in love with Youth Radio. I have been here for only 1 year now but with the help of my fellow BOM members it feel like I have been here for years and I have developed friendships with these people that will last a life time. I feel that talking about healthy relationships, not only help us live better but also live more healthier lives. It improves how we live and react as human beings, and living a better lifestyle helps you  become the "Boss of You". When you are the" Boss of You", that means that you are in control of yourself and that you are able to use your knowledge to make better and wiser decisions, that can better your life.

I like doing this type of work because I like informing people about the different types of relationships there is and the various types of abuse, because many aren’t well informed and get involved in abusive relationships.

My name is Lanaya Lewis and I am 17 years old. I am from Oakland, CA and I have been with BOM for 2 years. When I first started BOM I didn't know to much about Healthy Relationships, or what Domestic Violence was. BOM has changed that. I now know that Healthy Relationships consist of communication, respect, and being the boss of ones self. I believe that BOM helps people really understand what Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships are. What's up everybody my name is Derick and I’m from Oakland. I joined BOM when I was 15 and  a sophomore; I plan on going to college after I graduate. I like Youth Radio a lot and think it changed my perspective about life and a lot other things. Since working with BOM I have been staying out of trouble and my grades have improved a lot and I started to look at people different and actually care about their feelings. What I like about BOM is I get to learn new things every time I come in to work, and the people I work with are very helpful with school, relationships, and giving good advice if I have problems with someone. 

Hola! My name is Ti`Ara, and I've been apart of BOM for almost three years. I love having the opportunity to talk to and work with my peers who have relationship questions. I'm trained to provide them with several options to help them through their situation. For example part of my job is coming up with solutions for the daily MyDrama questions. I feel the MyDrama questions have a huge impact on BOM because other teens have a chance to send their question in and actually get a response from someone of their age. I can honestly say the best job to have is one doing something that youre passionate about. I feel pretty lucky.

In my free time I love to listen to my favorite vocalists and spend time with my loved ones. I am not really involved with too many physical activities but I am very ambitious about getting the word out on teen dating violence and other teen dating drama. BOM is my way of reaching out to others like me.

Im 18 and from East Oakland so I know growing up around Oakland is difficult for everyone no matter what background youre from.  Ive been working with BOM for the past year and I love it! Being in healthy relationships is important weather it's with family, friends, or boyfriends/girlfriends. BOM means taking responsibility for your own actions and controlling them. It's about knowing when to leave and when to step up!

Being the boss of me means to handle all business in life that’s going to put me on the right track so I can succeed in life. The reason why I think healthy relationships  are important are because its a lot of people in relationships that get abused and I like my job for the simple fact we are against that. And I like the fact that we help people in relationships see how important it is to have a healthy relationship because without the knowledge we send out to our some people would not know how to deal with their problems in a relationship.

Hey, what's up my name is Monica.  I'm 19 years old am I'm from West Oakland.  I've only been a youth advocate for two years.  I joined BOM because I have been in unhealthy relationships and didn't want to repeat the same mistakes. I also figured I could help other people simply because I know firsthand how it feels. I'm happy to say that I have learned a lot and have been able to help others since I started working here.  BOM means that you shouldn't let a person try to run your life, and you shouldn't ever feel pressured to do anything.
