Boss of Me

Precious

I recently have seen the new movie, Precious. At first I didn’t want to see this movie because I thought it would be boring or just another life story. Fortunately my mom and grandma wanted to go see the movie and wanted me to come along too. At first I was like nah, you all could go, but I ended up having nothing else to do. When we got to the movie theatre and the movie started I was still in the same mood like I don’t want to see it, but as soon as the movie started I got right into it.

As the movie progressed I began to get more interested. The main character Precious was going through so much n her household with mental and physical abuse. Throughout the day she would have to cook for her mother and go to school during the morning. It was also especially hard because Precious was 16, still in middle school. She never learned how to read or write because she was constantly in and out of school taking care of her baby, whose name was Mango. Mango had Down syndrome so Precious wasn’t able to take care of her because the abuse and neglect of the household she was in. She used to get rapped constantly by her own father and ended up having two babies by him in the end of the movie. The mother knew about everything that as going on, but didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to lose her “Man.” Therefore, in the household Precious was in her mother hit her, threw stuff at her, made her cook her meals, and made her do stuff that a daughter or anyone should have to do for her mother. Towards the end of the movie Precious ended up getting help from her teacher at a center and was able to get help. Although, Precious ended up finding out that she was HIV positive and only one person could have gave her this disease, which was her own father. Fortunately, she fought tough to keep the best alive in her and to provide whatever her children needed. She fought to keep learning in school and to make it to the top.

I think that this movie showed a good example on how some people’s life styles really are. Many people go through a lot in their households with abuse, but many of the people around them don’t know what is going on. I feel that anyone who has a problem like this should speak and get the help that they need. There’s no reason why anyone should be embarrassed or afraid to call and get help. This movie also showed that through rough times if you try your hardest and stay positive things will work out for the best, and you leave the bumpy roads behind you.
